LIONS PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS SEASON

The Russell Lions Club are getting ready for the 2014 Christmas Season. The season always brings out the best in our community and allows all of us
to focus on the good inherent within the human spirit.

Lion Margaret Pettipas will start events off the season by selling our delicious Lions Christmas Cakes and other goodies at various local bazaars. The first venue will be the AMIC Pre-Christmas Sale at the Russell Legion on November 8th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm followed by the St Mary's Anglican Church Christmas Bazaar November 15th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and finally the Russell United Church Yuletide Tea November 29 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Come on out and buy some of these delicious delights before they are sold out." Once again the Christmas Angels program will be available. This year the event will be held from November 15th to December 15th and, in recognition of the growth of our Village for the first time it will be held at two locations.

The ever popular Urban Country will once again host this event and will be joined by Barry’s Home Hardware which will serve as the second location. Please drop by either of these locations and pick up your Christmas Angel, buy a gift for a child and help us support those families in our community who have not had one of the better years.

In addition to the gifts for the children the Lions will also be providing Food Vouchers from Foodland in Russell to ensure everyone will have be able to celebrate Christmas with a traditional Christmas Meal. The Russell Fire Department will also be providing the Lions with sufficient number of Carbon Monoxide detection kits to include amongst the goodies for each family.

Look for the Lions to be a vocal bunch at this year’s Christmas Parade which will be held on November 30th. Not only will we be in the Parade but a group of Lions will also serve as judges to determine the best top three floats. After the parade come upstairs to the Arena where the Lions will be serving free hot chocolate and cookies. Have your picture taken with Santa and find out who the float winners will be.

Another enjoyable Lions Christmas event will be the annual distribution of Christmas Cakes to the Seniors. Always a welcome awaited treat the Lions are pleased to add to the seniors Christmas spirit.

Finally, look for our Christmas Tree in the Lions Park to be fully illuminated during the Christmas Season. This glowing seasonal treat ushers drivers in and out of Russell on Craig Street and servers to add a little brightness into your daily lives.

It’s going to be a busy Christmas Seasons for the Lions as we continue to serve and put Russell first.
