The
Russell Lions Club is starting 2022 off with a bang! We will be raffling
off a Quilt in support of Lions Foundation of Canada (LFC) Dog Guides. The
beautiful quilt was made by renowned quilter Margaret “Maggie” Fontana*
and is valued at $2,000! Entitled "Cirque du Soleil'", it measures 66" x
77" and is pictured to the right.
Who is Margaret "Maggie" Fontana?
Margaret "Maggie" Fontana is an Ottawa
quilter who has not only built a solid reputation as an amazing quilter,
but also a major donor of quilts for causes close to her heart.
She first started donating quilts to our club when we began sponsoring the
DeafBlind Ontario “Savour the Senses” fundraiser a few years back. Her
quilts were popular items sold at the live auction.
What
are the LCF Dog Guides?
In the early 1980's Lions Clubs across
Canada sought to develop a national project to reflect their service to
Canadians with visual impairments. The result was Lions Foundation of
Canada and its founding program, Canine Vision Canada, which was
established in 1985. Since then the Foundation has grown to include
additional Dog Guide programs: Hearing, Service, Seizure Response, Autism
Assistance, Diabetic Alert and newly introduced, Facility Support. Click
